Psalm 119:148 "Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word."
What a testimony to have.
The word "prevent" means to "come before."
In other words, the psalmist is saying that before the night watchman declares what hour it is, the psalmist is already awake and meditating on God's Word. It may be in the early morning hours before the sun has even created the hill that the psalmist has risen to meet with the Lord. He wanted no time of the day to be wasted, but wanted to spend as much time as possible in the Word of God and meditating upon the Scriptures.
How are we doing?
Do we wake up early in the morning with an eagerness to meet with God? Do we awake before our alarm goes off because of a hunger and desire burning within our hearts to get into the Word of God or to enter our prayer closets to spend time with the Lord? We often will rise up earlier than normal for other things: leaving on a trip, prepare a special meal, get our house ready in anticipation of expected company, a manditory meeting at work, even to go fishing or play golf
But when it comes to getting up early to meet with God, we put it off until later, or end up skipping it that day altogether.
I have found that the early morning is the best time for me to meet with God, to pray and read my Bible. I can start my day fresh, before sin and temptation have a chance to present themselves - and they will. Repeatedly. So I want to be sure I am prayed up and read up before continuing on in my day. I need to clothe myself in godly armor and "put on Christ" before making my exit from my home and my entrance into the world that will be my surroundings the rest of the day.
It truly makes a difference.
I know that, for I have made the mistake too often in the past of not taking time in the morning to be spiritually clothed and prepared for the day.
God desires for us to have a heart that desires Him. May we seek Him diligently and with our whole heart, that we might begin each day with God on our minds, His Word hidden in our hearts, and His will our desire to perform.
